While the Eight have already secured their spot at the Olympic Games in Paris, the Quads and Doubles still have a strong chance of qualifying at the Qualification Regatta in Lucerne. The team is heading into the season feeling motivated to build on its previous success and celebrate new triumphs.
“The German Men’s Eight team faces great challenges. We’re proud to help support the rowers on their ‘Road to Paris’”, says Oliver Hermes, President & CEO of the Wilo Group and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Wilo-Foundation. “We’d like to wish the athletes our heartfelt best wishes for the Olympics and for Olympic qualification. You can be sure: The entire Wilo family is behind you.”
Wilo has been the main sponsor of the German Men’s Eight since 2010 as well as of the Doubles and Quads since 2015. The Wilo-Foundation, majority shareholder in the Wilo Group, also supports elite rowing in Dortmund as part of a family tradition spanning decades. In the past year, the Wilo Group and the Wilo-Foundation have extended their contract with the German Men’s Eight ahead of schedule. The multinational technology group and the family foundation will therefore remain the main sponsor and promoter of young talent for the flagship of German rowing and the other boats until 2028.
There is a deeply rooted connection between the German Men’s Eight and the Wilo Group, shaped by shared values and a strong affiliation with the city of Dortmund. The Wilo-Foundation backs elite rowing by supporting young U23 athletes at the Dortmund site by awarding training bursaries or facilitating their participation in training camps. “Our support for young talent doesn’t just improve conditions for training – it also helps them balance sport with their careers”, explains Evi Hoch, board member of the Wilo-Foundation.
