Bayliss Machine & Welding Company was formed in 1935 when Mr. John M. Bayliss, Sr. purchased W. T. Sanborn Company located on the corner of 19th Street and 10th Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama. Mr. John Bayliss, Sr. was the shop foreman and had many years of experience in machine shop and repair work. Bayliss Machine & Welding Company was a family business from the very beginning with many of his eleven children participating in all parts of the operation, from management, bookkeeping, secretary, machinist, welder, driver, to just all around “gopher”.
