Navagraha Puja
Navagraha Puja is a Hindu ritual dedicated to the worship of the nine celestial bodies in Hindu astrology, which are believed to influence human destiny and life events. The nine celestial bodies are the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu.
The Puja is performed to seek the blessings and guidance of the Navagrahas, to remove obstacles and difficulties, and to attain peace, prosperity, and success in all aspects of life. It is also performed to alleviate the negative effects of planetary alignments and to bring balance to one’s life. The Puja involves the creation of a sacred space, the installation of the Navagraha idols or pictures, the offering of flowers, fruits, sweets, and other auspicious items, and the recitation of mantras and prayers. Some of the common mantras recited during the Navagraha Puja are “Om Hreem Graam Greem Graum Sah Budhaya Namah” and “Om Hreem Shreem Shraum Sah Somaya Namah.”
The Puja is usually performed by a Hindu priest or by the head of the household, who acts as the main performer of the ritual. All members of the family or those participating in the Puja are expected to participate in the chanting of mantras and offerings of flowers and fruits. Navagraha Puja is an important aspect of Hindu culture and spirituality, and is widely practiced across India and among Hindu communities worldwide, particularly during the festival of Navaratri. The specific form of the Navagrahas worshipped during the Puja may vary based on regional and community customs.
