Nikkiso launches high-pressure FGSS for next-generation ships

Nikkiso Clean Energy & Industrial Gases Group (Nikkiso CE&IG) has unveiled a new range of high-pressure fuel gas supply systems (FGSS) aimed at supporting the next generation of cleaner, more efficient marine engines.

The systems are engineered to operate at pressures well beyond today’s typical standards of 380–420 bar, enabling shipbuilders and operators to meet tightening emissions requirements while improving efficiency.

The company says the FGSS has been developed as a future-proof solution capable of supporting multiple fuel types, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), ethane, ammonia and hydrogen. This flexibility is intended to help the marine sector transition away from conventional low-pressure diesel systems, which have historically operated at around 320 bar, as demand grows for higher-pressure systems compatible with low-carbon fuels.

Nikkiso CE&IG’s FGSS technology builds on extensive experience in offshore and onshore applications, with tens of millions of operating hours at pressures above 420 bar. In the marine sector alone, the company has supplied FGSS to 40 vessels operating at more than 380 bar, accounting for over 500,000 operating hours.

Mike Wells, Vice-President of Product Management & Innovation at Nikkiso CE&IG, said: “This innovation is in direct response to the evolving demands of our clients, who look to us for reliable operation and a track record of delivery.”
