Punjabi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken primarily in the northern Indian state of Punjab and in Pakistan’s province of Punjab. It is also spoken by a significant number of people in the Indian states of Haryana, Delhi and Rajasthan, as well as abroad in places such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States where there is a large Punjabi diaspora.

Punjabi is written in the Gurmukhi script in India and in the Shahmukhi script in Pakistan. It has a rich literary tradition, with a history dating back to the 14th century. Punjabi has a complex grammatical structure and a vocabulary that has been influenced by various other languages such as Persian, Arabic and English. Punjabi music and culture is also very popular in India and Pakistan, with Punjabi songs and films being enjoyed by people of many different languages and backgrounds.
